Unify Your Financial Data: A Playbook for the Enterprise Virtualization Suite

Your financial institution's most valuable data is trapped. Spread across disconnected legacy systems—core banking, trading platforms, CRMs—it's a constant struggle to create a single, coherent view. Manual data aggregation for regulatory reporting is slow, expensive, and riddled with risk, leading to compliance delays and flawed business insights.

The Enterprise Virtualization Suite provides a modern solution to this legacy problem. By implementing a logical data fabric with Denodo, a leading data virtualization platform, we create a unified semantic layer over your existing systems *without* disruptive data migration. This virtual layer connects to all your disparate sources, normalizes the data on the fly, and presents it as a single source of truth. Business users can then connect directly with Microsoft Power BI to build powerful, interactive reports and dashboards, while Microsoft SQL Server acts as a smart cache to ensure lightning-fast query performance.

Expected Outcomes

  • Establish a single, virtual source of truth for all critical business and regulatory data.
  • Drastically reduce the time and manual effort required for data aggregation and reporting.
  • Improve the accuracy and timeliness of regulatory submissions, reducing compliance risk.
  • Empower business analysts with self-service access to unified, governed data.
  • Optimize query performance against legacy systems through intelligent caching.
  • Increase agility by adding or modifying data sources without breaking downstream reports.

Integration Logic

  • Denodo Standard JDBC/ODBC Drivers

This integration uses Denodo's standard ODBC driver to establish a connection between Microsoft Power BI and the Denodo Platform. Power BI acts as the client, sending DAX or SQL queries to Denodo. Denodo, as the data virtualization server, processes these queries in real-time by fetching data from its configured underlying sources. To optimize performance for complex or frequently run queries, Denodo can be configured to use a Microsoft SQL Server database as an external cache. When a query for a cache-enabled view is executed, Denodo first stores the result set in a table within SQL Server. Subsequent identical queries retrieve the data directly from the SQL Server cache, significantly reducing latency and load on the original data sources. This entire process is transparent to the end-user in Power BI.
